First of all let me warn you before going shopping that there most definitely seems to be an endless supply of department stores with maternity clothes.
Although it may not seem like it at first, there are plenty of cheap maternity clothing stores out there, you just have to be prepared to search them out and do a bit of research first. I recommend using the Internet before going out into shopping malls, it will not only save you time but will also give you a better idea of the range in maternity clothes out there, believe me there are a huge variety of styles!
In my case, I was not so lucky to have been given this advice. Without knowing my sister it would be hard to understand just how difficult it can be to sway her when she has her mind set on something. I could tell as soon as I saw her that her mind was dead set on going to all the top places to shop for maternity wear, so I set myself up for a long day. However, not everyone can afford to shop in the fashion boutiques frequented by Victoria Beckham and have the most up-to-date styles that we often see celebrities displaying. Of course I was not going to tell my sister that, I decided she could and would come to that conclusion on her own. However after trooping through shop after shop and dropping the items she had in hand whenever we saw the price tag, I decided to step in. Enforcing the idea that it would be much better for her feet and back, my sanity and her husband’s credit card if we instead visited a shop that sold discount maternity clothing.
As any girl will know, if you are out shopping with a friend, or in my case my sister, it really is very hard not to start looking for clothes for yourself. Despite not being pregnant, I saw a lot of pretty maternity clothes, however my sister does not have quite the same style, preferring instead to go for more funky maternity clothes then anything I would ever choose. Being autumn there were also a lot of summer sale maternity dresses but thankfully my sister will not be pregnant next summer and so they were surplus to our needs so we moved on.
Of course then we had to consider the fact that she would need professional maternity wear when she started to show, for work. There was no way that she could get away with wearing her cheaper maternity clothes as she had to represent the company and meet with all the Associates, Clients and Partners of the consultancy. She not only needed a range of smarter clothing but also in a range of different sizes for when she started to grow. Then came the next issue: certain stores not only had a range of clothes varying in price from extremely inexpensive to very pricey but also bridal maternity clothes. Seeing these clothes brought my sister’s own wedding back to her and she wanted to try these clothes on too. However, by this time, I really was pretty worn-out and tired of shopping and mercifully managed to drag her and her seemingly endless number of carrier bags away.
